Sore Hock - this occurs when the hock (the bottom of the back feet) becomes a wound site. This usually occurs if the rabbits have been walking on sharp wire or, more commonly, when they are constantly standing in their own filth and it becomes a sore that turns into a festering wound.

Treatment: Take the animal to your vet and/or treat with topical antibiotics. Find out why the issue occurred and fix the problem. To avoid sore hock, be sure to feel the bottoms of your cages before putting animals inside, and always clean the cage regularly. If you are using a non-wire bottom cage, switch to a wire bottom cage. If left untreated, it will get worse and may require surgery.
