Equipment

Picture
There is a lot of equipment out there! Almost 95% of the items shown below can be found at KW cages, so they are a great place to start! For basic pet rabbit items, your local pet store should work just fine to find what you need!

All the pieces below are on the state tests for 4-Hers and used for large populations of rabbits, but you may not need all these pieces for a pet rabbit.

The Basics

For a pet rabbit, you'll just need the cage, a water bowl (ceramic, hooked to the cage, or a bottle) and a food bowl (ceramic or hooked to the cage). A hay rack is optional. You will also need white pine shavings to put inside the tray to absorb the liquids. You will also want a paint scraper to use to clean the trays.

Hay Rack, hooks onto the outside of the cage and the rabbit pulls the hey through the wire.
Picture
Quick Lock Crock, the base clamps through the cage wall. The bowl part turns to pull off and turns back to lock on for easy cleaning.
Picture
Metal (or Plastic) Rabbit Feeder, the holes in the bottom allow the pellet dust to fall out instead of compacting in the bottom and molding from moisture. The front fits through a hole cut in the cage to fill it from the outside.
Picture
EZ Crock, clips on the outside of the cage- no metal means no rust, clamping outside means no cage cutting!

Picture
Stoneware Crock, commonly used for water in winter because the rabbit cannot flip it due to it's weight. For outside rabbits, water bottles cannot be used in the winter because of the metal fount.

Picture
Mat Foot Rest, not for the whole bottom cage- just for an area (in which the animal doesn't create waste) so they can rest their feet on something softer than wire.

Urine Guard, attached to the bottom sides of the cage to contain spraying.
